Hi all,
-- All the in coming students might have already received an email from Stacye Fraser with some useful info on Housing and Temporary accommodation. But I'm posting it here just in case if any body did not receive it and because it might be useful info for the students already here at UAB or for the faculty moving to UAB.
Additionally, I spoke to the www.selectmyspace.com operations manager Zach Langford - zlangford@selectmyspace.com , and he agreed to help anyone finding an apartment with any requirements. If you want to and have someone to share an apartment with, then that's fine, but if you don't already have a roommate, let them know you are looking for a roommate too (with any requirements like male/female, nationality, smoking/non-smoking etc.,). They will try to suggest some one who is looking for a roommate as well, so that you can contact that person and take it forward from there.
Here is the email that Stacye sent:
Dear Students:
Fall is rapidly approaching. I will be sending update emails as new information comes available, but I wanted to share the following information to help you plan for your arrival.
If you have not given me your confirmation information, please provide the following:
Visa appointment date or visa approval date:
Date of estimated arrival:
International Information Session (Choose One): August 20th, August 22nd, or September 6th
You can either email me the information or enter it on the International Student Page.
Undergraduate students must attend a New Student Orientation in addition to the International Information. The last one is August 20th, so please make sure to choose the 22nd or Sept 6th if you must attend. To register, go towww.uab.edu/orientation for New Student Orientation. Graduate students, contact your department regarding any program they may offer. The School of Public Health orientation is set for August 21st.
Temporary Housing
Temporary Housing availability through the university is very limited, but those interested should email studenthousing@uab.edu for an application. If available, they have temporary shared spaces for $30.00 per night and these are only available through August 8th as the spaces used will be occupied as dorms for Fall semester. Those arriving after August 9th, if you plan to live on-campus, it's better to request 'early move-in' versus temporary housing. Email that request to studenthousing@uab.edu.
Others who do NOT plan to live on-campus will need to seek temporary accommodation with friends, student groups, or at a local hotel. Student groups that might be off assistance include:
